Gurteen Centre

BYS – Gurteen Youth Centre, Ballyfermot

The Gurteen area of Ballyfermot covers upper Ballyfermot. The targeted groups are from the age of 10-21 years of age. The aim is to provide 200 young people who are at risk of drugs, crime and anti-social behaviour with new leisure and educational opportunities based on the principles of youth work.

We build positive relationships with young people as a starting point for further structured pieces of work. This is achieved through structured groups which focus on important issues such as education, self-awareness,  sexual health and drugs awareness. The centre is open six days a week  with various programmes delivered  for the different age groups, the centre is also the base for our Saturday night soccer programme which runs from Oct to May  each year.

Youth Centre

BYS – Adventure Centre, Parkwest

The adventure centre is situated in Park West Business Park adjacent to the Grand Canal, which is an ideal location for many of the activities & programmes it provides. Our aim for the centre is to engage young people in our targeted groups and involve them in positive recreational activity.

Through this involvement in exciting and very social activities we hope to develop core life skills such as: respect, teamwork, communication skills, and improving physical well-being as well as an awareness of self,  others and the environment.

Peer Education

By means of appropriate training and support, the Peer Education & Drug Awareness Programme aims to empower young people to work with other young people.

This draws on the positive strength of the peer group and allows the young people to become active players in the educational process.
